Media and Political Officer
The Australian High Commission is seeking a Media and Political Officer to work in its political section.
As part of a small team, the successful applicant will monitor domestic and international political developments, and prepare briefs and reporting. The successful applicant will liaise with local media and assist with the Australian High Commission’s public diplomacy program. Specific duties would include:
• writing weekly reports on politically-motivated violence and the domestic political and economic situation in Pakistan;
• researching immigration-related research requests; and
• preparing and distributing media releases (including maintaining a comprehensive contact list for the distribution of releases).
The successful applicant should be adaptable, show initiative and be willing to take on other duties as required, such as assisting other locally engaged members of the political team with their duties, and back-filling their duties as required.
Selection criteria: Applicants should possess a good postgraduate degree, and have significant experience working for an embassy, university, NGO, think tank, international organisation or media outlet. Applicants should be familiar with Pakistan's political and media environment, and be able to independently conduct research and produce outcomes under pressure. Excellent written and spoken English is essential. The ability to write fluently in English will be tested during the application process. Fluency in Urdu with an ability to translate Urdu to English is highly desirable.
Salary range: Around PKR 110, 000 per month, plus benefits and performance pay.
