IMMIGRATION SECTION

Applications are invited for the vacancy of a Senior Visa Processing Officer, Immigration Section.

A merit based selection process will be undertaken to fill the vacancy. The selection criteria and duty statement for the vacancy are attached. Applicants should provide a concise, typed statement in support of their claims against each of the selection criteria. Applicants should include a current CV.

Applicants who do not address the selection criteria will not be considered.

The salary will be PKR1,100 per hour. The position is full time. This vacancy is to be filled June/July 2010.

DUTY STATEMENT

1. Assess applications for entry to Australia against legislation and policy requirements contained in various information sources. Conduct interviews, provide advice and, as a delegate under the Migration Act, take decisions in a timely manner on temporary entry (visitors, transit and short stay business visas) applications.

2. Liaise with overseas and onshore offices of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and other stakeholders in order to provide a high standard of service to clients.

3. Respond to public enquiries on visitor and short stay business visas.

4. Other duties to support the Australia- Based staff, as directed.


SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Ability to exercise delegations as required under Australian law and policy in relation to the processing of temporary entry visa applications. The ability to interpret legislation and policy and apply this in a decision making context, while demonstrating probity in handling information of a confidential nature;

2. High level of oral and written communication skills and ability to deal effectively with the public;

3. Demonstrated ability in the use of PC based software including word processing;

4. Ability to manage own work, ensuring accuracy, thoroughness and quality of work;

5. The demonstrated ability to work in a team and operate in a culturally diverse environment:

6. Capacity to absorb information and undertake new tasks quickly, to be flexible, to respond effectively to challenges and to work as a member of a multicultural work team.

Due to the delegations to be exercised, this has been designated as an expatriate position. Applications for the vacancy are limited to citizens of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA or the United Kingdom.
